ALONNISOS, GREECE

The Island of Alonnisos

Blessed with rugged natural landscapes, and surrounded by small islands scattered around the archipelagos, Alonnisos is an island ideal for those you want to unwind and enjoy leisure walks surrounded by pine forests, olive groves and orchards. The island is the most remote of the Northern Sporades island group, and plays host to the National Marine Park of Northern Sporades, a refuge for rare seabirds, dolphins and the Mediterranean monk seal, monachus monachus.

The most picturesque island in Alonnisos is Chora, the island’s capital. Sitting on the top of a hill overlooking the Aegean Sea, Chora is the best place to visit in Alonnisos! You’d never guess that Chora had been damaged by an earthquake that occurred in 1965 and caused the inhabitants to move to Patitiri, the port of Alonnisos. The most popular villages of Alonnisos are Patitiri, Votsi, Roussoum Gialos and Steni Vala. These places are also ideal for families and couples. As for Alonnisos beaches, they have crystal clear waters and are surrounded by lush greenery, boasting a wonderful natural setting!
